Video training — learn to shoot and edit with confidence.
Camera or phone, vlogging or something more traditional — I'll teach you the camera settings, profiles and lenses, how to get clean audio, how to light what you're filming, and how to edit it into something you're proud of.
What the training covers:
Camera and settings come first — frame rates, shutter speed, white balance, picture profiles, ND filters. I'll show you what each thing actually does and why it matters, so it makes sense rather than just being a list of buttons to remember.
Audio's where good footage either holds up or falls apart. Wireless mics, getting your levels right, dealing with background noise in a real environment rather than a quiet studio.
Lighting starts with natural light, and learning to use it well takes you a long way. From there it's LED panels and simple three-point setups for when you need more control. This is one of the more satisfying bits — small changes, big difference, and you'll see it happen in front of you.
Video covers several different forms — interviews, vox pops, events, podcasts, behind-the-scenes, promo. We'll work on what's relevant to you. For podcasting, I can also show you how to set it up on a phone using the Blackmagic app.
If you're filming for social media, that's its own conversation — talking to camera, vertical filming for Reels, TikTok and Stories, and how that's different to filming landscape for YouTube or a website.
Editing rounds it off. DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro or your phone's editing app — taking your footage from card to finished edit, with the cuts, colour and audio sitting right. No pressure to get it perfect first time, that's what practice is for.
How the one to one sessions work:
An ideal training session is 3 hours — any longer and it's not as productive on the same subject. If you want more in-depth training, we can book it in 3-hour blocks spread over a few weeks, so you've got time to practise what you've learned before the next one.
To book a Video 1:1 training session click on the PayPal button below. The training can be via Zoom online or locally if within a 15 mile radius or 30 minute drive from HP4 1PL.
For locations further than 15 miles or a 30-minute drive from Berkhamsted a minimum booking of 6 hours or two participants is required. For bespoke group sessions, please contact us for more information.
